Create Sparks, Ignite Passions, and Make Connections: Spartans Connect

Considering the wealth of diverse talents, interests, and possibilities in our schools, we are missing a prime opportunity to facilitate the development of the element for students while building meaningful relationships that nurture well-being.

And that led to the moment of asking “what if we created…”

  • an opportunity where we value exploring the passions of all learners so the formal curriculum and the artificial barriers governing schools are forgotten if even for a moment.
  • an opportunity where students and teachers partnered around their common interests in order to share their passions with the community.
  • an opportunity where students become teachers, teachers become students, and we all become learners.
  • an opportunity where individuals invite others into their passions as a mechanism for creating a spark in connection and in interest.
  • an opportunity that fosters deeper relationships and sense of community by strengthening connections.
  • an opportunity that embraced agency, creativity, curiosity, joyousness, and play as targets not just talking points.

And this became the vision for Spartans Connect, a day where we would put aside schooling for learning, connecting, and building.

“Robinson, who’s been outspoken about the need to change the education paradigm, emphasized that educators shouldn’t be pushing (or be pushed toward) the gratuitous use of technology. He posed thought-provoking questions that got to the heart of what every stakeholder in education wants: what does it take to engage students — not just within a standardized curriculum, but in their own learning? What are the roles of technology in doing this? And what are the implications when it comes to implementing practices and policies?”
